Biology's Big Ideas -- DNA and Protein Synthesis
Class experience
Topics covered will be the structure of DNA and the various forms of RNA, the process and importance of DNA replication, how DNA controls the formation of proteins (transcription), and the synthesis of polypeptide chains (proteins) from amino acids (translation). The class will utilize discussion and lecture, simulation, worksheets and video clips.
Students will be able to describe the structure of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) and how structure relates to their function. Students will be able to explain the importance and process of DNA replication. Students will be able to discuss the significance and steps of protein synthesis.
