Students will participate in weekly live online discussions as we explore some diseases and medical conditions that are common for a variety of large/farm animals. Additional carefully selected YouTube videos will be provided for additional learning after class. There are no requirements for homework, but I will make suggestions for ways to learn more about each species. Week 1- Horses - several of the most common medical conditions of horses will be discussed as well as how a vet can identify the problem. Week 2- Cattle (Dairy and Beef) - diseases and medical conditions the may affect either or both types of cattle are discussed including the symptoms that may be seen as well as how the vet may treat them. Week 3- Sheep/Goats - this class will be focused on medical conditions as well as diseases that may affect these popular livestock. What the farm owner may see as initial symptoms and how the animals may get infected are discussed. Week 4- Alpaca/Llama/Swine - these are the least commonly owned of these large animals so we will discuss a little about best practices of management and then a few medical conditions that may be seen in these species.

Parental Guidance
Some medical conditions and diseases may have signs or symptoms that are upsetting to some. Some photos shared in the weekly PowerPoint may be “gross”….but veterinary science can be gross. If you / your learner are not comfortable with this, please reconsider taking this course.
