Class Experience
US Grade 3 - 6
In this 4-week flexible schedule course, students will discover what it means to study life itself in the fascinating world of Biology. They will come away with a solid foundation in key Biological concepts, preparing them for future study. I use engaging visuals and welcome all interaction and questions via the classroom discussion board! The curious mind is the most pliable. Curriculum: Week 1: What is Biology? Week 2: The Cell & Organelles Week 3: Mitosis & Meiosis Week 4: Evolution & Energy Each week, students will be expected to: 1) Watch the lesson video 2) Complete a review quiz/game (Quizlet) 3) Record a short video project 4) Participate in the discussion board Students will learn important terms by competing together in games and quizzes via Quizlet. The video projects will give students the opportunity to show their level of understanding by teaching what they know about each topic. After all, the best way to test your own knowledge on a subject is to teach it yourself! In addition to the feedback I provide, students will watch other students' projects and give them feedback. Students will also participate in a weekly discussion board. Part of being a scientist is asking questions and being curious about the world around you. Each student will post a question or two that they thought of while learning the material that week. Then, other students will do their best to research and answer each others' questions. In addition to posting a quiz question to start the conversation, I will help them find answers and make clarifications as needed. More detailed instructions on the weekly assignments will be provided at the beginning of each week. Though no previous knowledge of Biology is required, this course may be taken after my One-Time course “The Study of Life: Introduction to Biology”, if students are not ready to commit to a 4-week course.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about the four biological molecules as well as the cell and its organelles. They will be introduced to mitosis and meiosis and study principles that are necessary for life, including energy, homeostasis, and evolution.
