Interested in learning about germs? Come learn how to collect bacteria in your home, grow it, write a lab report, and identify the bacteria found.

Class experience

-students will learn about lab protocol and safety
-students will demonstrate safe bacteria collection techniques
-students will present a project showing their lab data and protocols followed
-students will learn about the basics of bacteria

Learning Goals and Objectives for the Biology Program
Goal-1: Students learn to apply the scientific method and knowledge for solving biological
problems.
• Objective 1: Understand a biological problem or question and articulate its significance.
• Objective 2: Critically evaluate an experimental method used to solve a biological
problem.
• Objective 3: Understand the results of a biological experiment presented in various
formats.
• Objective 4: Use a statistical tool to answer a biological question or solve a problem.
• Objective 5: Use a technical tool to answer a biological question or solve a problem.
• Objective 6: Critically evaluate evidence and sources of information for solving a
biological problem.
Goal-2: Students learn to effectively communicate results of a biological study to any audience.
• Objective 1: Create a convincing presentation of a biological research or project.
• Objective 2: Give a convincing oral presentation of a biological research or project.
Mrs. Collins is a certified science teacher with 23 years of experience in the classroom and lab.

**In order to complete this lab, families will need to purchase pre filled agar petri dishes online. These can be found at Carolina Biological, Amazon or other science websites. Please purchase a minimum of 5 dishes. spiral notebook notepad pencil or pen clear tape gallon ziploc bags q tips gloves hand sanitizer posterboard (any color) clay (dry clay works well too) play-doh paper plates paper towels construction paper glue sticky notes foil
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Parents, we will be collecting bacteria. Students will be swabbing areas of their home to grow bacteria in sealed containers. I do ask that students throw away the containers at the end of the 4 weeks and I encourage everyone to wear gloves. 
The instructor used the following: Holt Biology Textbook and Brenau Microbiology Textbook 

Students will not need to purchase any curriculum it will be provided by the instructor in a teacher created slideshow.
