Learn the steps and purpose of mitosis and meiosis, then build mitosis and meiosis with cookies and icing (or a modeling dough of some kind form).
Class experience
In today's lesson we will learn how you body rids of old damaged cells. Then we will learn how your body heals and gains new cells via mitosis. Next we will study meiosis, the reduction process to prepare cells for fertilization. We will fill in a graphic organizer using a powerpoint. Students will review the phases with an interactive game. Then we will practice identifying the stages and results of each process with another interactive acitvity. Finally we will build our own cookies...
squeezable icing OR sprinkles 10 oreos or 20 sugar cookies a piece of paper OR 4 different colors of modeling dough If supplies are limited you could always use colored pencils and paper. Optional to do the lab together or to instruct the lab by modeling on screen.
