Beginner Level
In this fun and interactive ongoing course, we will explore a new topic in life science each week. Each class will begin with an explanation of the theme, and learners will get a chance to share what they already know. Through photos, videos, games, and diagrams we will explore the topic in greater depth. Some weeks will include a short experiment to engage children in the scientific method. Learners will be encouraged to fill in their provided science journal and complete complementary worksheets. Topics: (by week) 9/11: Living v. non-living things 9/18: Cells 9/25: Plants (structure/function and life cycle) 3/9 (Thurs) 3/15 (Weds): Plants (photosynthesis) 3/16 (Thurs) 3/22 (Weds): Animals 3/23 (Thurs) 3/29 (Weds): Hibernation and migration 3/30 (Thurs) 4/5 (Weds): Food chains 4/26: Decomposers & experimental design/scientific method 5/3: Body systems: Skeletal & muscular system 5/10: Body systems: Digestive system 5/17: Body systems: Circulatory system 5/24: Body systems: Respiratory system My teaching style is adaptable. Each class is different, so I always work to adapt to the needs of every student. Each learner is encouraged to engage to the extent that they are comfortable. My virtual classroom is a place for all levels and abilities.
