Biological Evolution: Unity and Diversity
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Natural Selection and Selection Pressures
What is natural selection? How do different natural selection pressures lead to variations in populations?
 Week 7
Lesson 7

Design, evaluate, and refine a solution for reducing the impacts of human activities on the environment and biodiversity.
 Week 12
Lesson 12
Biodiversity and Class Wrap Up
Share solutions for reducing the impacts of human activities on the environment and biodiversity. Course summary and future avenues of research for biologist.
  • Design, evaluate, and refine a solution for reducing the impacts of human activities on the environment and biodiversity.
  • Use a model to illustrate the role of cellular division (mitosis) and differentiation in producing and maintaining complex organisms
  • Communicate scientific information that common ancestry and biological evolution are supported by multiple lines of empirical evidence.
I have successfully taught middle and high school biology for 12 years. My scientific background is in neuroscience. While the school I was teaching at transitioned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), I redesigned and implemented new biology curriculum for the district.

Feedback: included
Details: Additional time allowed to complete engineering and research projects.
Assessment
Frequency: included
Details: Teacher will communicate with students and parents regularly regarding learner progress.
This course covers evolution from a purely scientific basis. Savvas' science curriculum is used to present evidence. The NGSS standards are used as a basis. While this may be a sensitive topic, this information is presented in an objective way.
