Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Join us as we delve into the fascinating world of microscopy! This interactive class meets twice a week and offers a laid-back environment for learning. Learners get to have a say in how we spend some of our club time.

The first unit will cover cellular biology, and the second unit will focus on the scientific method. At the beginning of each class, learners will use interactive notebook pages to visually represent the concepts they are learning. Throughout the course, we will demonstrate suggested lab activities in class, and learners are encouraged to try them at home. Materials for the activities will be posted at the start of each week.

During the second half of each class, we will dedicate our time to drawing. Learners will take turns choosing an animal to draw, and we will go through a video tutorial together to guide their drawings. I am always impressed by the unique styles and personal touches that each learner brings to their artwork. As we progress through the sessions, you will witness how their artistic skills develop! After class, pictures of their drawings will be shared in the classroom for everyone to admire - creating our very own club art gallery!

In this club, learners develop teamwork and cooperation; positive interactions with peers are encouraged. Speaking skills are developed by sharing their artwork and supporting one another.
Learning Goals

I have more than 20 years of experience teaching children in various settings including camps, afterschool programs, and other children's programs. Over the last six years, I have taught learners online and homeschooled my children.

I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. I am passionate about utilizing my knowledge and research skills to educate children about the fascinating world of animals.

I have been offering classes for the past three years focusing on providing support to parents in teaching Biology to their children. This includes areas such as dissections and microscope work. I have taught High School Biology at a local co-op and have gained insight into the specific areas where students need assistance. I have also utilized technology to aid students in their study of these challenging topics. I enjoy working with children of different age groups.
