Description

Class Experience

I have been a certified veterinarytechnician for more than 30 years in a mixed animal practice that also sees exotics and injured wildlife. I have been teaching at a local community college in a veterinary Assistant Program and a variety of Veterinary Science programs for grades 3-5, 6-8, and high school. I also teach in an equine studies program at a local private university as well. Along with all that I am also a homeschool mom! At home, my family has 3 mini horses, a Paint horse, 5 Nigerian dwarf goats, 9 chickens and 3 cats! I am passionate about sharing my experience and love for animals and veterinary medicine with others!
Learners will be encouraged to share a presentation with the class on a veterinary topic regarding one of their favorite farm or exotic species. This can be in any form (PowerPoint/ Google Slides, a written report read to class, etc) Presentations are not required, only encouraged!
Occasionally a worksheet will be added to the classroom for printing. For the exotics week, stuffed animals may be used to practice restraint. Species could include; rabbit, bird, snake, lizard, guinea pig. There are no required stuffy species! Any small stuffed animal can be used.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
  • YouTube
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
During this course topics will include injuries and illnesses that may occur with these animals. Learners will also see photos of animals that are being cared for by a veterinary team including surgeries. Please be sure that your learner will not be upset by these topics. Content will be similar to veterinary TV shows.

This class does not qualify learners to provide any medical or diagnostic services to animals nor is it recommended by the teacher

Additional carefully chosen YouTube video links will be provided after class for further exploration on the week’s topic. These are not required, only added for those families who would like to participate.
