Advanced Level
This is an advanced course. Learners in this course must have previously taken veterinary science courses on Outschool, or have previous veterinary knowledge from 4-H, camps, TV/books. In this course we will begin the first week with introductions, and course expectations. After that we will discuss what a vet may need in order to begin taking care of a patient. We will also explore the resources and other veterinary professionals a doctor counts on to care for and treat their patients. **IMPORTANT NOTE** this course is not a course to train learners how to diagnose or treat animals. It is designed to allow learners to follow the thought processes that are involved when a veterinarian cares for their patients. These are real cases shared from veterinarians with identifying details changed for privacy. On day one of each case we will discuss the details of the cases and how the veterinarians approached the diagnostics. Learners will choose a case and be given an assignment to research a few topics that the doctor considered, or the tests they used to be shared in the next class meeting. On week 2 of the case, learners will share what they learned during their research, and the cases will be wrapped up with the final outcome. Week 1- intros and discussion of approaches and equipment used in the care of a variety of veterinary patients. Dog/puppy cases introduced Week 2- Dog/Puppy cases- learners present research they did, cases wrapped up including outcome. Cat/Kitten cases introduced. Week 3- Cat/Kitten cases - learners present research they did, cases wrapped up including outcome. Horse/Pig cases introduced Week 4- Horse/Pig cases - learners present research they did, cases wrapped up including outcome.
