1 hour per week. Student understanding will be assessed by class discussion participation and questions asked. Feedback will be given in the immediate discussion from the teacher.

** please note:  if there is no section of this class scheduled, or one that fits your schedule and your learner has taken the Advanced Vet 1, you may enroll them in any Advanced Vet class 2-6. They do not need to be taken in order, they are only different topics.

*** There are also Self-Paced options of Advanced Vet 2-5 classes. *** 

Learners will participate in our weekly live online discussions and see a PowerPoint presentation as we explore the veterinary care needed and many medical conditions that we see in these species. Additional carefully selected YouTube videos will be provided after class for students who would like additional learning. Some worksheets may be included. 

Lessons 1-6 are Large Animal/Livestock/Horse related content. 

Lessons 7-10 will focus on common exotic pets.

Lesson 1:
Dairy and Beef Cattle
 This lesson will explore how vets do exams/herd health, getting vital signs, signs of illness, diagnostic tests when cattle are sick.

Horses
 In this lesson we will discuss how veterinarians do physical exams, getting vital signs, vaccines, signs of illness diagnostic tests when a horse is sick

Sheep and Goats
 In this lesson will discuss how vets do physical exams, getting vital signs, signs of illness, diagnostic tests when sheep or goats are  ill.

Pigs, Llamas, and Alpaca
 In this lesson we will discuss how vets do physical exams getting vital signs, signs of illness, diagnostic tests when these animals are sick.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
During this course topics will include injuries and illnesses that may occur with these animals. Learners will also see photos of animals that are being cared for by a veterinary team including surgeries. Please be sure that your learner will not be upset by these topics. Content will be similar to veterinary TV shows. This class does not qualify learners to provide any medical or diagnostic services to animals nor is it recommended by the teacher Additional carefully chosen YouTube video links will be provided after class for further exploration on the week’s topic. These are not required, only added for those families who would like to participate.

I have been a certified veterinarytechnician for more than 30 years in a mixed animal practice that also sees exotics and injured wildlife. I  have a MEd from Colorado State University and and have a Master of Veterinary Education (MVEd) from Lincoln Memorial University’s School of Veterinary Medicine.  

I have  been teaching  at local colleges in Veterinary Assistant Programs, an equine studies program and a variety of Veterinary Science programs for grades 3-5, 6-8, and high school.

 Along with all that I am also a homeschool mom! At home, my family has 2 mini horses, a Paint horse, 4 Nigerian dwarf goats, 6 chickens and 4 cats!  

I am absolutely passionate about sharing my experience and love for animals and veterinary medicine with others!
