Intermediate - Advanced Level
** Please note: if there is no section of this class scheduled, or one that fits your schedule and your learner has taken the Advanced Vet 1, you may enroll them in any Advanced Vet class 2-6. They do not need to be taken in order, they are only different topics. *** There are also Self-paced options of Advanced Vet 2-5 classes. *** This course will explore a variety of topics that are related to small animal veterinary science. (Cats, dogs, etc) In class PowerPoints and discussions will be supplemented with some in class and outside of class projects and videos. Learners should have either taken my Introduction to Veterinary Medicine class or have some basic knowledge of veterinary science. Taking Advanced Vet 1 first is strongly recommended, but not required. The final part of the last class will be used to get feedback from the learners on their thoughts and experience in class. Then look for the next section “Advanced Veterinary Medicine Section 3-6!

Veterinary Dentistry 1
This lesson will begin with some veterinary dental terminology, and dental anatomy of dogs and cats. Grades of dental disease in dogs and cats will be shown.

Lesson 2:
Veterinary Dentistry 2
We will discuss the full dental cleaning procedure that is done in the veterinary hospital including dental radiology. The importance of home dental care will also be discussed.

Lesson 3:
Bandaging 1
In this lesson we will discuss why a pet might need a bandage. We will also discuss what a veterinarian or technician does to be sure the badge is properly placed. Two different bandages will be demonstrated and students are encouraged to practice during class on a stuffed animal. Bandage care will also be discussed.
Supplies needed will be provided the week before. Substitutions are always accepted.

Parental Guidance
Some additional YouTube videos will be posted and learners are not required to watch them if they find the topic to be something they don’t wish to watch. Some topics may be difficult for some kids, such as certain diseases.

I have been a certified veterinary technician for more than 30 years, have a MEd from Colorado State University and a Master of Veterinary Education (MVEd) from Lincoln Memorial University’s School of Veterinary Medicine.
I have been teaching at local colleges in veterinary Assistant Programs, in an equine studies program and a variety of Veterinary Science programs for grades 3-5, 6-8, and high school.
I am also a homeschool mom! At home, my family has 2 mini horses, 4 Nigerian dwarf goats, 6 chickens and 4 cats!
I am absolutely passionate about sharing my experience and love for animals and veterinary medicine with others!
