Intermediate - Advanced Level
This course will explore a variety of topics that are related to small animal veterinary science. (Cats, dogs, etc) In class PowerPoints and online discussion posts will be supplemented with a variety of worksheets, Quizlet, class projects and videos. Learners should have either taken my Introduction to Veterinary Science class or have some basic knowledge of veterinary science. Taking Advanced Vet 1 first is strongly recommended, but not required. DISCLAIMER: this class does not qualify learners to provide any medical or diagnostic services to animals nor is it recommended by the teacher. If you have questions or concerns about your own pet, please contact your local veterinarian.
Learning Goals
Learners will become familiar with veterinary dentistry and the importance of dental care.
Learners will begin their knowledge on a number of small animal diseases and medical conditions.

Curriculum

Dentistry 1
Students will learn veterinary dental terminology, and dental anatomy of dogs and cats. Grades of dental disease will be discussed.

Lesson 2:
Dentistry 2
This lesson will discuss the full dental cleaning procedure that is done in the veterinary hospital. Dental radiology will also be discussed. Students will learn home dental care recommendations.

Lesson 3:
Diseases and Medical Conditions 1
Students will learn about some of the common problems we see in our canine and feline patients. Feline leukemia and feline anemia will be discussed in this lesson.

Diseases and Medical Conditions 2
Students will learn about some of the common problems we see in our canine and feline patients. Canine parvovirus and kennel cough will be discussed in this lesson.

I have been a certified veterinary technician for more than 30 years, have a M.Ed from Colorado State University and a Master of Veterinary Education (MVEd) from Lincoln Memorial University’s School of Veterinary Medicine.
I have been teaching at local colleges in veterinary Assistant Programs, in an equine studies program, as well as in a variety of Veterinary Science programs for grades 3-5, 6-8, and high school. Prior to teaching I was in management at one of the largest veterinary practices in my state.
I am a member of the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America, the Association of Zoo Veterinary Technicians and the American Association of Equine Technicians and Assistants. I am a lifelong learner myself and love sharing my excitement for learning!
I am also a homeschool mom! At home, my family has 2 mini horses, a Paint horse, 4 Nigerian dwarf goats, 6 chickens and 4 cats!
I am passionate about sharing my experience and love for animals and veterinary medicine with all learners from diverse backgrounds from all around the world! If your learner has a dream to be a veterinary professional, then I am excited to help them on these first steps!
