Learners will be assessed at the start of the class in terms of writing skills. The final assessment is a written biography assignment.Class Experience
US Grade 4 - 7
This class will cover everything you need to write a biography. We will read a biography of Andre DeGrasse, a gold medal sprinter from Canada. We will look at the format of several other biographies as examples. Then students will be given a graphic organizer to write a biography on a person of their choice. The teaching style will be that of "creative writing workshop". Students will learn skills required to produce a published piece of writing. Students will also be able to include drawings, graphic art, links and some research as part of their work. We will go over how to identify reliable sources of information for research purposes.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their writing skills and improve their understanding of what a published piece of writing looks like. Students will learn some editing skills and view examples of biographies.
