Description
Class Experience
Biography is a very specific part of the writing world that takes a tremendous amount of work to do well in. In this class, students will be introduced to the genre, given a topic, and will have time to try out their new skills. Students will be able to expand their abilities, become inspired by those around them, and learn to share others' stories. These are the various topics that we will focus on in each session: - Working with new concepts by utilizing prompts. - Using theme, and plot...
Students will have the opportunity to grow their skills in these areas: - Writing within a genre framework. - Researching effectively. - Revising and editing using feedback. - Utilizing parts of a prompt to spur a story.
I have taught writing and reading for the last 3 years at brick-and-mortar and virtual schools. I have a degree in Elementary Education.
No homework will be assigned, but I will encourage students to complete or edit their stories after class. However, I will be giving students personalized feedback to each student about their writing after the class ends.
There will not be any formal assessment, however, I will be giving personal notes on each student's work completed during class.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Students may be exposed to parts of a person's life that may be considered on the darker side. As a writer, this is a particularly important part of a person's life to write about. Specific themes students will be exposed to will vary per student since they are choosing their own person who they are researching.
Students will be using the internet for the research portion of this class.
