US Grade 4 - 7
In this class of Strange History we’ll look at the life and writings of Edgar Allen Poe, a personal favorite of this Strange History teacher! We’ll look at the life of his very interesting parents, his young life being informally adopted by the Allen family, and his mysterious, tragic death. Oh, and of course we’ll look through some of his most classic works like The Raven and The Tell-Tale Heart. Class structure is a quick meet and greet time, followed by a PowerPoint class (where students mute their microphones), followed by a question and answer period! Class is typically around an hour long, but can go long depending on how many questions the students have at the end of the class, but you’re always welcome to leave when you need!

Parental Guidance
Even though Edgar loved the creepy and strange, he kinda lived a not too crazy life- he did struggle with alcoholism, so I mention that on and off, and I also talk about how he ultimately married his first cousin… so… 😆
Supply List
Possibly a pencil and paper to write down any questions they may come up with during class to ask at our Q&A time.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
I utilize many books and websites when researching and cross referencing my classes. In this particular class I used books The Edgar Allen Poe Complete Collection by Edgar Allen Poe, but also A Quiet Madness: An Edgar Allen Poe Biography by John Isaac Jones. I also use many websites like history.com, biography.com, Smithsonian.com, and Britannica.com, along with anything else that’s relevant.
