Did you know that reading exercises our brains? Reading is a much more complex task for the human brain than watching TV! Reading strengthens brain connections and actually builds new connections. It also improves concentration teaches us about the world.
Through reading, children learn about people, places and events outside their own experience. They are exposed to ways of life, ideas and beliefs about the world which may be different from those which surround them!
So snuggle up on your couch and get ready for Read Aloud Book Club…en Espanol! 80% of this class will be taught in Spanish. I will read books out loud and if students feel comfortable reading aloud, they will be given short opportunities to do so. Each class will begin with a sharing/check in. Then, I will read 1-2 books (depending on length of the book) and lead a reflection after each book. Class structure: 5 minute check-in, reading time 25 minutes, questions and answers (5 minutes), independent work assignment (10 minutes). Books to be read include "Are You My Mother? Eres Mi Mama?" "Diego," "Sapo y Sepo/Frog and Toad," "Un Pez, Doz Pez/One Fish, Two Fish," and "Señorita Mariposa." An optional homework assignment will be given at the end of class.
