In this one-time language class, learners will have the opportunity to explore the charming story of "The Papaya Seeds" in both English and Chinese. Through this immersive experience, learners will gain exposure to Chinese language and culture in a fun and engaging way. The class will cover a variety of topics related to the story, including basic conversational Chinese, storytelling, and cultural elements. Learners will be taught to read and understand the story in both languages, with a focus on vocabulary and grammar. The class will be structured in a way that allows learners to engage with the material in a variety of ways. The first part of the class will be a lecture-style introduction to the story, with the teacher leading a discussion of the main themes and vocabulary. During this portion, learners will have the opportunity to ask questions and clarify any confusion they may have. No prior experience or knowledge is typically required for this class. Learners of all levels are welcome to attend, as the class will be designed to meet learners where they are in terms of their language proficiency. The only requirements are a willingness to learn and an interest in the story and language learning. To begin the class, learners will start with a "hello" song in Chinese to set the tone for the rest of the class. This will be followed by an ice-breaker game, where the teacher will guide younger learners to introduce themselves and say hello to each other in Chinese. Then, the teacher will use PowerPoint or Google slides to show the students the story and main vocabulary. Learners will also have the opportunity to draw the main character of the story and learn some simple Chinese characters. Overall, this one-time language class offers a unique and exciting opportunity for learners to explore a classic children's story while gaining exposure to the Chinese language and culture. I was born and raised in Shanghai, China. I obtained two diplomas in Early Childhood Education from Preschool Normal College of Shanghai in 1990 and KLC school of Education in Singapore in collaboration with Beijing Normal University of China in 2001. I have over 32 years of experience with extensive training in teaching young children in China, Singapore, and the USA. It’s my pleasure to share the language history and culture of China with you and your child. I have been living and working in the USA since 2008. My hobbies are reading, cooking, photographing, and traveling.
