Class Experience

In this first installment in the acclaimed series of "Big Picture" histories, Mr. Powell of History At Our House will show you how to grasp the connection between past and present -- and really learn it! And it comes at an introductory price of only $5!

No prior knowledge of American history is required. Parents and students who have tried to learn American history, but who have been frustrated by being unable to grasp the "big picture" will find the class especially helpful. Students who already understand parts of the story will finally see how they fit together!

As will be discussed briefly in class, this class does not attempt to present all the themes of American history in one swoop. It is part of a trio of class on different themes. This class is focussed on America and the world we live in, in other words, it's evolution from independence and political separation towards its present role as "world police power." Because it is of such overarching significance, the Civil War is discussed, but the subject of civil rights is the deliberate focus of the sequel to the class in the series entitled "The Way We Live." Finally, a third class in "The Way We Live" series looks at the history of technology.

All families that participate in the live sessions will also receive permanent access to the Youtube screencast recording for repeat learning and enjoyment. In addition, students will be guided to produce their own Anchor Fact(TM) timelines and narratives to cement their understanding.

It's never too late to start learning history properly once and for all! This is the BIG PICTURE of American History -- for you and your child.

NOTE: This class includes a discussion of the phenomenon of modern Islamic terrorism in relation to the 9-11 attacks and to the subsequent "War on Terror." I strive to make the point clearly that most Muslims are peaceful people, but that there are different interpretations of the concept "jihad" within the Muslim world, including the concept "holy war."
