BIG Emotions: Activity and Story!

In this ongoing class we will focus on social-emotional learning by reading 'A Little Spot' books, we will complete an activity, and I will provide handouts and additional activities for your use later for emotion regulation.

Class Experience

In this class we will read "A Little Spot of Emotion" box set, by Diane Abler. I will read these in a read aloud format, and I will complete an activity based on the spot we read about. This is a hands-on activity that learners are welcome to join me in, but is not necessary. I will also provide handouts for learners to complete.

Week of May 8- A Little Scribble Spot
Learners will listen to "A Little Scribble Spot" about a spot who has so many feelings at once! We can then make our own Scribble Spot!

Week of May 15- A Little Peaceful Spot
Learners will listen to "A Little Peaceful Spot" about a spot who shrinks negative spots and grows his peaceful spot. We can then make a sensory bottle to use when we need to grow our peaceful spot!

Week of May 22- A Little Spot of Happiness
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Happiness" about a spot who feels happy! We can then start a happiness paper chain that can be added onto all week!

Week of May 29- A Little Spot of Sadness
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Sadness" about a spot who feels sad. We can then do an activity about sadness and making room for other emotions. 

Week of June 5- A Little Spot of Anger
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Anger" about a spot who feels anger. We can then do an activity about anger and how it can grow!

Week of June 12- A Little Spot of Anxiety
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Anxiety" about a spot who feels anxious. We can then do an activity about how anxiety weighs us down.

Week of June 19- A Little Spot of Love
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Love" about a spot who feels loved! We can then do an activity about what makes us feel loved!

Week of June 26- A Little Spot of Confidence
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Confidence" about a spot who feels confident! We can then design bracelets to grow our confidence spots!

Week of July 3- A Little Respectful Spot
Learners will listen to "A Little Respectful Spot." We will then work on how to respect people, places and things!

Week of July 10 - A Little Spot of Responsibility
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Responsibility." We will then make a good decision chart!

Week of July 17 - A Little Spot of Kindness
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Kindness." We will then make kindness cards!

Week of July 31 - A Little Spot of Patience
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Patience." We will then do a patience activity!

Week of August 7 - Finding Your Spot in the World
Learners will listen to "Finding Your Spot in the World." We will then design our own lamps!

Week of August 14 - A Little Spot of Organization
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Organization." We will then brainstorm ways to stay organized!

Week of August 21 - A Little Spot of Honesty
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Honesty." We will then go through honesty scenarios!

Week of August 28 - A Little Safety Spot (at School)
Learners will listen to "A Little Safety Spot." We will then learn about signs that keep us safe!

Week of September 4 - A Little Spot of Feelings 
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Feelings." We will then play a game with facial expression flashcards!

Week of September 11 - A Little Spot of Frustration 
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Frustration." We will then create 'Frustration Flips'!

Week of September 18 - A Little Spot of Belonging 
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Belonging." We will then play 'Belonging Bingo'!

Week of September 25 - A Little Spot of Flexible Thinking 
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Flexible Thinking." We will then create oak trees and palm trees!

Week of October 2 - A Little Calm Spot 
Learners will listen to "A Little Calm Spot." We will then design our own 'Calm Corner'!

Week of October 9 - A Little Spot of Boredom 
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Boredom." We will then create a 'Boredom Checklist'!

Week of October 16 - A Little Spot of Empathy 
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Empathy." We will then do a perspective activity!

Week of October 23 - A Little Spot of Worry
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Worry." We will then create a 'Worry Pocket'!

Week of October 30 - A Little Spot of Optimism
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Optimism." We will then do an activity about mindset!

Week of November 6 - A Little Spot of Courage
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Courage." We will then create 'Courage Cards'!

Week of November 13 - A Little Spot of Talent
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Talent." We will then create a talent mobile!

Week of November 20 - A Little Thankful Spot
Learners will listen to "A Little Thankful." We will then brainstorm some things we are thankful for!

Week of November 27 - A Little Spot of Teamwork
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Teamwork." We will then write a teamwork story and draw a teamwork picture!

Week of December 4 - A Little Spot of Creativity
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Creativity." We will then create musical instruments out of everyday items!

Week of December 11 - A Little Spot of Perseverance
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Perseverance." We will then turn scribbles into beautiful drawings!

Week of December 18 -  A Little Spot of Giving
Learners will listen to "A Little Spot of Giving." We will then work on giving non-material things, like friendship and patience.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
We are reading a book about feelings. I will only read the book and do a follow up activity. Because I am a licensed teacher, and not a therapist, that is the extent of what I will cover. I will also complete an activity every class , and if your learner follows along you may want to supervise or help them (pouring, gluing, blowing up a balloon, etc.).

ACTIVITIES/ SUPPLIES ARE OPTIONAL - Teacher-supplied handouts are needed

Handouts will be provided. I will complete an activity after each book. Completing the activity along with me is OPTIONAL, but if you want  your leaner to you will need the following for those activities:

Week of May 8: You will need one of the following in multiple colors: Wikki Sticks, yarn, pipe cleaners, model magic. I'll be using pipe cleaners. 
Week of May 15: Empty water bottle, water, vegetable oil, food coloring, little items (beads, buttons, glitter, trinkets, etc.)
Week of May 22: Strips of construction paper (yellow would be best), tape/ glue
Week of May 29: Dry sponge, cup/bowl of water
Week of June 5:  A balloon (red would be best)
Week of June 12: A bag with some useful things, and some heavy things (I will have a backpack with pencils, a notebook, crayons, and heavy rocks)
Week of June 19: A cut out heart or heart drawn on a piece of paper, little pieces of paper to glue onto that heart, or circle stickers instead of little papers
Week of June 26: Bracelet template provided by me, coloring supplies, ' I am in control of my emotions' handout
