Class Experience

Students will be given an overview on main sequence stars in this class. The class will also briefly discuss the life cycle of stars as well as what a star is.

Topics that will be covered include what a star is, the life cycle of stars along with main sequence stars. Students will also learn about different classes of main sequence stars as well as specific examples, such as Alpha Centauri. Students will learn about how far some of these stars are as well as what constellations, if any, they are a part of.

I will begin the class with a warmup about what fascinates them about stars. Then I will discuss what a star is, briefly talking about the life cycle of stars before teaching about main sequence stars. After they learn about each class of main sequence star, they will do a student activity in which they read about what is beyond our Solar System. Then they will hear some final fun facts in closing.

I encourage participation during my classes. Students can participate by asking questions or sharing verbally. If they do not feel comfortable sharing verbally, they are free to use chat to share if they wish to do so.

Students will be able to interact with me and with each other throughout the class through discussion.

Students do not need any prior knowledge. All they need is an interest in space, astronomy and STEM as well as a desire to learn.
