US Grade 4 - 7
Students will learn about a moon, star, constellation, or stellar phenomenon, such as a black hole, a nebula or a supernova during this class. Topics to be covered will include moons, stars, constellations, and stellar phenomena, such as nebulas and supernovas. The class will begin with a warmup, in which I ask students about a favorite thing, such as favorite food, favorite color, favorite star, favorite celestial body, such as planet, moon, or star, or favorite stellar phenomenon. Then we will have a mini-lesson on a moon, a star, constellation, stellar phenomenon or a combination of such. I will be using a Google Slides presentation to make the class more real and interesting for the students. There will be a student activity in which students can read more about what was discussed in the mini-lesson, using NASA websites as well as other astronomy websites. Then we will close with some final thoughts. Every class will be a different moon, star, constellation or stellar phenomenon. Mini lessons to be covered in the first 4 weeks: Week of April 11: The Galilean Moons of Jupiter Week of April 18: Deimos and Phobos Week of April 25: Orion the Hunter Week of May 1: The Big Dipper and Little Dipper This is subject to change and new topics will be introduced over the next few weeks. Participation and discussion are encouraged in the class. Students are free to ask questions and share comments during the class. If students are not comfortable sharing verbally, they are free to share and participate on chat if they wish to do so. Students will be able to interact with me or with others throughout the entire class. Students do not need to bring any prior knowledge to the class. All they need to bring is an interest in space, astronomy, STEM, and a desire to learn.
