4 hrs 35 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this five day camp, dancers will experience a true classical ballet class adapted to an online format. While the class will only be one hour in length as it is difficult to safely execute large jumps and leaps in an online setting, students will complete a full barre and many center exercises. Activities May Include: -Plie -Tendu -Degage (Battement Jete) -Rond de Jambe -Frappe -Stretch -Grand Battement -Adage (Adagio) -Center Tendu -Waltz -Petite Allegro -Chaine and Pique Turns Proper placement and alignment are stressed throughout the course to help dancers work safely and prevent injury. It is my belief that dancers should also be educated on dance history as they complete their technical exercises. I always encourage my students to explore the similarities and differences between different styles of classical ballet, such as: Vaganova, Cecchetti, and RAD. Class Rules: *While every reasonable effort will be made by the teacher to ensure exercises are conducted in a safe manner, this is an online dance course and parents should be nearby their dancers to monitor their activity and to ensure their safety. *Dancers need to leave their cameras on for the entire lesson. *Dancers should wear form-fitting attire that allows them to move freely. Leggings and a tank top work well if you are not ready to purchase dance attire. *All dancers should be respectful of each other and of the learning environment. *Have fun and learn something new! Please note: *By enrolling in this course, the dancer and dancer's legal guardian agree that the dancer meets the prerequisites for the course. They further understand that there are risks inherent to any physical activity and they agree to assume full responsibility for any risks, injuries or damage known or unknown that the dancer might incur as a result of participating in this online course. *After much research and trial and error, the teacher has chosen to use two cameras, a microphone, and a mixer as the tech set-up for this class. This protects the quality of the audio and controls for some latency, as rhythm and musicality are extremely important in the study of dance. Dancers are expected to participate in Zoom's "Gallery View" at all times. Not only does this allow students to see both of the teacher's cameras (one is full-body), this is an interactive class that encourages students to interact and learn from one another in addition to the teacher. This is a critical component of classroom learning. Your dancer may find that he or she wants to pin the full-body video and mirror a tablet to the TV to get the best online classroom experience. *It is the teacher's policy not to share classroom recordings. *All information in this course description and the course itself is the sole intellectual property of the teacher.
Learning Goals
Dancers will improve their classical ballet technique and ability to pick up choreography.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
While every reasonable effort will be made by the instructor to help dancers prevent injury, this is an online dance class and parents should be near their dancers for the duration of the lesson to ensure that their dancers are performing in a safe manner. Dancers should take class from an open space free of obstacles with a smooth floor.
Supply List
Dancers should wear form-fitting clothing that does not restrict movement. Dancers should take class from an area that allows them to move safely without hindrance from the floor or furniture. A chair, kitchen counter, or ballet barre may be beneficial but is not required. Dancers may also want to bring a water bottle to class.
