Informal observation and correction as needed. Class will practice a modified version of the Canine Good Citizen test at the end of the class and feedback will be given. Graduation certificate will be given to learners who successfully complete class.Class Experience
Does your dog already know how to sit and stay, but you would like to extend his training? In this 5 week course, we will delve further into intermediate commands. Teacher will speak about importance of adding duration and distraction in training commands. Teacher will also address how dogs communicate and problem behaviors and any difficulty behaviors students have with their dog in training or behavior will be addressed. Teacher will demonstrate the command on a real dog and/or demo dog. Students will practice the command using their own dogs. This is a hands on class. It is important that student participate in training. Teacher will bring in Video from AKC Website and other videos and power points to present the lesson. Week 1: Sit-Stay/Down-Stay with duration, communication Week 2: Sit-Stay/Down-Stay with distractions, take-it/leave it and problem behaviors Week 3: Place (Go to your Bed), Recall (Come when called) Week 4: Heel and Loose Leash Walking Week 5: Graduation (Students will be assessed on a modified version of CGC (Canine Good Citizen Test) Sit-Stay with Duration - 45 seconds Sit-Stay and down-stay with distractions - 30 seconds Leave it - on the ground Heel - Heel by your side for 15 feet (Students must go in person to take actual (Canine Good Citizen test) Tricks if time left in class
Learning Goals
Students will expand upon their basic dog training commands by learning to add duration and distraction to basic dog training commands.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Dogs are unpredictable and all train at different levels. Space is needed to train. Puppies age 5 months and younger are not appropriate for this course. Also, older or ill dogs may not be able to keep up with stamina of the class.
Supply List
4 to 6 foot leash, 15 to 20 foot leash or longer. No retractable leashes. Dog treats, dog.
