This one-time class will help tweens make that very important transition from child to teen. Tweens are going through mental, social, emotional, and physical changes. They are facing many challenges as they strive to fit in. Research suggests that self-esteem issues can have negative long lasting consequences. This class will focus on self-esteem, problem-solving, decision-making, defining interests and strengths, and stress relief. The activities will be fun and engaging and include interest inventories, fun quizzes, "Would You Rather" questions, and discussion. The class will be interactive and does not require any previous class, knowledge, or experience. The future editions of this class will follow the same format although activities will change so there will be an opportunity for your tween to keep learning and developing his/her skills.
Learning Goals
Students will develop more self-awareness and practice important social skills; this class will lead to better self-esteem and increased confidence.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a masters degree in education/school counseling. I have been in education for over 30 years working at all levels. I started in middle school which I loved but then was asked to go to various elementary schools. I was a little skeptical but then found I loved that level also. Finally I was asked to start some programs at the high schools. Would I be able to enjoy and have great rapport with them? Yes, loved that level too, I just love working with kids of all ages! I want students to be successful learners. Research has established that social and emotional (SEL) skills play an important role in having success in school and in life. It has even been shown that students with good SEL skills score better on tests. It is my passion and mission to help students become healthy learners and that will be the goal of the classes I teach.
I like to be outside gardening, hiking, and playing with my grandkids. I look forward to many happy and rewarding experiences with my future students.
