Beginner Level
These lessons are designed for beginner flute players. I teach in a direct manner with step-by-step instruction to make learning the flute easy and approachable. Students will receive feedback from me each lesson. I look forward to working with beginners because it is the start of an exciting musical journey! Here is an outline of how the first lesson will be conducted: 1st Flute Lesson: How to sit and breathe. Opening the flute case and learning the parts of the flute. How to care for the flute. How to handle the flute parts. How to use lips and air to practice low and then high sounds on the headjoint. For fun, before class ends, spend time on the use of a technique called tongueing. Assignments: Detailed instructions for a student's daily practice between lessons will be provided. These might include: Practice in front of a mirror to see lips. Headjoint practice only 2-3 minutes low sounds and hold the sound as long as possible. Rest, come back, and practice blowing low sounds.
Learning Goals
1st lesson: To make a low sound on the flute headjoint progressing to a high sound. How to develop the use of lips and air.
2nd lesson : Headjoint practice to hear how well low and high sounds are progressing, and tonguing. Learn to put together the flute and proper position on holding the flute. How to finger the first 4 notes. How to read the first 4 notes.
