Beg/Int Ballet With Miss Lexa: Pop Hits Series (Ongoing)
Class experience
In this 55-minute weekly ongoing class, we’ll practice and explore ballet while dancing to today’s pop hits! At the start of each class, we’ll say a quick hello so we can get to know each other. Then we’ll jump right into traditional ballet barre exercises (plie, tendu, releve, degage, pique, ron de jambe, kicks and passe). Next, we’ll stretch and work on dynamic steps that move across the floor (chaine turns, pique turns, glissade, pas de chat, balance, tambe pas de bourree, waltz steps,...
1) Actively participate in movement to support motor skills and social-emotional development. 2) Master foundational ballet steps with correct form and posture- such as plie, tendu, and degage. 3) Be able to physically execute and coordinate intermediate ballet steps. 3) Be able to identify and use intermediate ballet terminology.
I have over 6 years of dance and theater instructing experience for large scale competition studios, theatres, and preschool programs and have been directing community theatre productions for 3 years. As a professional dancer with a Group Fitness Instructor Certification, I also have an in-depth knowledge of movement science and safe practices. Alongside my Bachelor’s in Theatre Studies, I also hold two Associate degrees in Child Development and Social and Behavioral Sciences- making me well versed in instructional techniques for students of all ages.
Dancers are welcome to wear a leotard and tights, or moveable street clothes. Ballet shoes are recommended, but bare feet are also welcomed. A distraction-free space where you can freely and safely move is also recommended, as well as having a water bottle close by.
Dance is a physical activity which should always be done with parental supervision. Dancing on a flat and uncluttered floor space is encouraged to help eliminate potential hazards. Having water close by and taking breaks when needed is also encouraged. If the child has a physical limitation or medical condition which is aggravated by movement, please consult a doctor before participating. The only songs with lyrics played in class are organically clean (ie. with no “bleeps”, as “bleeps” can be distracting and imply a bad word). If a song contains any kind of slightly inappropriate content, we will only play and dance to the selection without any sexual, violent, drug, or other inappropriate references. All effort has been made to ensure students get to dance to popular songs that they hear often on the radio, while keeping class appropriate and focused on the dance. The only songs with lyrics are the Song of the Day- the rest of the music used in class are entirely instrumental versions of popular songs.
Miss Lexa does not own and did not create the music used in class. The music used and artists referenced are only used as an instructional tool to support learning.
