Class Experience
In this semester class, the children will learn how to write letters and numbers, draw and identify shapes, and write their name through a variety of activities. In the first session I will draw different types of lines and shapes to assess their current skills. This will help me to identify the skills they have and build upon them. As they gain more control and purpose of movement, we will start to practice some simple letters (C O, S) and then continue onto more complex letters (R, Q, G). Throughout the course of this class we will work on upper and lower case letters. Letters which have the same shape regardless of upper and lower case will be introduced at the same time. Learners will also practice identifying the letters, sounds, and things that start with the letters. If they are able to identify all the letters and sounds we may move on to rhyming and sight words. Math concepts such as identifying numbers, counting, one to one correspondence, colors, shapes, patterning, and the foundation for addition will also be included. During each lesson, we will focus on a few different skills through a variety of games and activities. For example, we may identify and write the letter "A" and then play a game to hunt for letter A's. After wards, we will count how many letter "A's" we found. So, during this class the skills were writing, identifying and creating the sound for letter "A", and counting. Additional activities may include a story or drawing something that starts with "A". I believe that teaching should be fun, repetitious, and involve many different concepts to help ensure they are learning the new skill. Everyone learns differently and at their own pace. I will do my best to help them reach their goals and challenge them in a fun, and creative environment. If you have specific requests, questions, or want to share information that may help them and myself to achieve their goals, please do not hesitate to send a note. I cannot wait to meet your little one. Thank you.
