In this class, students will learn the basics of a ukulele. What are the parts of the ukulele? How do I hold my ukulele? How do I tune my ukulele? All of these questions will be answered in this class! We will learn a basic strumming pattern, and at least two chords (depending on student ability). Students need to bring a ukulele (Soprano, Concert or Tenor) to class. Students may need help tuning their instrument, especially during the first class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Lindsey Atkins and I am excited to teach your student. I believe learning should be fun, and students are more engaged in their learning when they are having a good time and are interested in the topic they are learning. I keep my class enrollments smaller in order to provide more individualized attention to students and create a more productive learning environment for all.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts Education from East Carolina University. I also studied Music Therapy. I have a teaching license in K-12 Theatre Arts and Elementary Education K-6, and currently work as an elementary school teacher. I have experience working with all kinds of learners, and love to teach students who want to learn!
I love music and theatre, they are my passion! I am a singer and I play the ukulele, guitar, and piano. I will offer beginner and intermediate ukulele for all ages, and basic music theory and music reading.
I live in North Carolina and enjoy spending time with my family. I have 8 nieces and nephews from ages 2 to 18! In my free time, I also enjoy playing music, reading, and traveling.
Please let me know if there is a specific topic you are interested in! I am excited to expand my classes and am willing to add classes your learners are interested in.
I look forward to learning with your student!

Class Policies:
1) I strive to keep classes close to the scheduled amount of time, however, classes with low enrollments or especially talkative students may run a few minutes under or a few minutes over.
2) I generally will teach a class no matter the enrollment. However, I will contact you 24 hours before class begins if the enrollment is low and offer to switch your learner to a more full section. I keep my enrollments under six students because I believe it provides a better learning experience for all as I can provide more individualized attention.
3) Classes will begin at the scheduled time, even if all learners are not in the classroom (unless there appears to be a technical issue). I will not contact absent learners during class time so I can focus on the learners who are present.
4) If no learners are in the classroom, I will wait 10 minutes before exiting the classroom per Outschool policy. In this situation, I may contact the families after I have left the classroom to potentially transfer learners to a new section or schedule a make up class.
