In this 4-week course, students learn a new song each week to play on the ukelele.

Class experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Beginner Level
Students will learn to play chords: C major, F major, G major
Students will learn to recognize chord symbols used in standard notation.
Students will also be exposed to F7, C7, and G7 chords and variances in strumming patterns as well as being exposed to tablature notation.
Sandra Girouard has been a teacher for over 30 years. She first became curious about the ukulele in 1997, after attending an Orff-Schulwerk conference and meeting music teachers from Hawaii. She came home, bought a soprano, concert, and baritone ukulele and never looked back. Ms. Sandra is a Level 3 JHUI certified teacher through the James Hill Ukulele Initiative (https://www.uketropolis.com/jhui). In addition, Ms. Sandra holds both a Bachelor of Music degree and a Master of Arts in Education.
Homework Offered
Students should expect to play through the songs presented in class severe times daily. Daily practice is like water to a garden. Small portions daily are better than a deluge all at once! Students will learn about tuning their instrument and should make a habit of keeping it in tune.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Grades Offered
 - a soprano (20 inches), concert (23 inches), or tenor (26 inches) ukelele. Please note: This course is NOT suitable for a baritone ukelele (30 inches). The instructor will use a 23 inch concert ukelele.
 - a digital tuner (preferable) or access to GuitarTuna. Like a digital tuner, GuitarTuna "listens" to your ukelele and tells you whether a string is in tune when you play it. In order to do so, it will need access to your microphone (in order to "hear" your ukelele). A digital tuner is *preferable*, but GuitarTuna is a good substitute.
