Assessment

Learners are tested on typing speed and accuracy using online typing tests.

Class Experience

Students will learn correct hand placement and how to maneuver the fingers to reach all keys accurately.
Lessons will be taught using a finger placement chart and incorporating teacher demonstration with class practice. No prior background knowledge is required. Online games from www.freetypinggame.net will be used to enhance practice. Students are encouraged to practice class exercises and games at home to increase comfort with the keyboard and speed. Learners progress will be evaluated by typing exercises and completed assignments, and class will culminate with a typing test to show their accomplishment.

Week 1: Identifying home keys, hand placement and mechanics of typing

Week 2: Practicing typing random characters to reinforce hand placement and  key memorization

Week 3: Practicing typing words and short sentences incorporating punctuation and symbols

Week 4: Type a paragraph about something of interest to share with the class

Supply List

Students must have a laptop or desktop computer to  use for class and practice sessions. A typing finger chart showing the hand placement will be provided to the learners.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I am offering this class because I learned typing as a part of my Vocational Technichal high school experience and appreciate the value of accuracy and speed that my skills have enabled. I feel that typing is a lost art. My experience with teaching practical skills  make me a good fit for teaching this class and also I hold an MBA in business administration/accounting.
