In this 3 week class, students will begin to learn basic Kindergarten math concepts. We will begin each class by counting to 20 using a portion of a 100 chart. Week 1 will be focused on learning to count, what a number represents, how to write numbers 0-10 and how to make a group of that specific number. Week 2 will be a review of week 1 concepts but we will add how to sort objects. Week 3 will be a review of weeks 1 and 2 concepts but we will add more than, less than and equal to concepts. I have a very hands on approach to learning. Learners will need to have a small bag of objects they can easily manipulate and count. Anything you have at home will be fine- legos, hot wheels cars, shoes, crayons, goldfish crackers, etc. Because student's at this age don't have completely developed hand bones and muscles, learning to write the numbers is more easily done using a large marker, a large crayon, a dry erase marker, etc. This will also be needed along with a piece of paper for them to write on each day. I am more of a fun-loving but no nonsense teacher. I have little rhymes for the kids to learn as they are writing the numbers and we will count together. As I have 4 years of teaching Kindergarten in my own classroom for experience, what you will get is what they would have in a public education classroom setting. I will call on learners to tell me how many I have in a group. Children will be able to show me their work as they write and I will use postive reinforcement as well as corrections in real time as needed.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I'm Ms. Kameran Thompson and I have seven years of teaching experience in grades K-2. For this age range, I have mostly taught in the general education classroom. I love teaching this age! Giving kids the foundations they'll need in math, reading and phonics is truly the most rewarding career there is! I have also taught teenagers classes on flow painting, money management and growth mindset. These are topics that I am incredibly passionate about and enjoy instilling in young adults as they aren't topics that have a lot of time spent on them in the classroom. For fun, I am excited to teach classes like Holidays Around the World, Gingerbread story studies and more!
I got into teaching to help make a difference in children's lives. I want to teach topics that they'll use for the rest of their lives. One of the reasons for leaving the classroom is that I am not teaching to a test. I am teaching kids to love learning and apply their learning to life!
When I'm not teaching, I'm enjoying life as a pilot wife and a boy mom! You'll find me reading self-improvement books, painting or traveling this incredibly gorgeous world and getting to know the different cultures!
