We will learn several songs over the next 8 weeks and you child will be able to play independently. Younger students have shorter attention span and subsequently this course addresses that and offers music games during the lesson, and because the class is shared with one other student, it makes the class more engaging for the younger kids. Siblings are welcome to take this course together, and find that siblings will encourage each other on the piano. If you have any questions whether your child is ready to begin playing, please contact me. If your child is older please see other classes I am teaching. Parents will need to purchase two books, John W. Schaum Pre-K book, which is around $8.00 and the Fingerpower Primer Level which is around $7.00. Both can be purchased online. I have over 20+ years of teaching experience combined, and have specialized in teaching the youngest of students. Many have continued with me up to their teens years, and gone on to study music in college. In this course, we will start with John S. Schaum, Pre-K book, also known as the green book, which begins in the little C hand position, with finger numbering which helps little ones begin to play piano music quicker. This course also includes how to read basic music, and music theory, i.e., notes, values and rests, hand placement and posture. All the necessary basics to insure the learner will have a strong understanding of the piano if they choose to continue past this course.
Learning Goals
Learners will learn the basics of piano and to be able to find middle C, read 8 notes and 4 rests, several music terms and finger numbering and to be able to play several songs at the end of 8 weeks.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I teach piano lessons, guitar lessons and acting to children and adults. I have been teaching piano for over 20 years. I started teaching from my home part time and then opened my own music studio were I managed a staff of 5 teachers and a studio of over 150 students. I evaluate how each student learns and cater the lesson to their learning style. I am always accessing where a child is having troubles during a lesson so that I can give them the extra attention they need to help them become a well-rounded piano player. I also, when the curriculum allows, will give learners sheet music of songs they know, which encourages them to practice.
