Beginner Level
Let's get ready to go to a party where everyone speaks Spanish! In this course we're going to learn Spanish and on the last day of class, pretend to attend a Mexican fiesta. Students will learn by hearing, seeing, and repeating Spanish words as well as phrases. If you were in Spanish - Part One, we'll be singing some of those songs we learned (and if you weren't in Part One, it's okay, this is still beginning Spanish). Week 1/2: Learn vocabulary, ways to introduce yourself and say goodbye, and Las MaΓ±anitas (Happy Birthday). Week 3/4: Learn about the foods of Mexico, numbers, and colors. Week 3: Learn how to make a piΓ±ata and sing the piΓ±ata song. Week 5/6: Review vocabulary, conversation starters and songs that were learned during the previous classes. Week 7: Review/Get ready for the fiesta! Special activities include piΓ±ata making, learning party songs, and drinking authentic Mexican hot chocolate. Citlali, my sweet Spanish speaking doll (pictured) will often assist during class. General class structure: 5 minute introduction, 10 minute vocabulary, 10 minute conversation, discussion/presentation, 5 questions and answer session, 5 minutes reflection/closure.
Learning Goals
Students will become comfortable speaking basic conversational Spanish and learn about Mexican culture.

Parental Guidance
I live on a homestead in Vermont. If the power ever goes out (it's very rare as we have a back up generator), please understand. I will accommodate your schedule and hold a make up class. This is highly unlikely but need to share this information.
Supply List
This class (and my next session) will use a Spanish textbook that is available on Amazon. All the information will be on the class syllabus which is available in the classroom. We will be making simple piΓ±atas, Mexican hot cocoa and/or agua fresca (fresh fruit juice). Total cost for materials: $10 -$17. I've added 5 minutes to this class because I noticed that the kids in the past wanted to share, but we alway ran out of time. It wasn't always connected to Spanish, the extra 5 minutes at the end of class are dedicated to "free sharing" and don't take away from our learning time.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Spanish was my first language and I have been working with bilingual children (and their parents) for over 15 years. I wrote a bilingual play (for children) that was set in Mexico, filled with music and dance. I have also tutored and taught conversational Spanish. My classes are fun and memorable!
