Class Experience

In this class your learner will have the opportunity to explore their musical creativity and curiosity. GarageBand is a powerful, yet beginner friendly and intuitive Digital Audio Workstation used by both beginners and professionals alike. Utilizing this tool, learners will learn the basics of good songwriting such as Melody, Harmony, Lyric writing, musical styles, etc. They will also have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of music production, such as mixing, mastering, beats, and much more.

Course outline:

Week 1: Exploration of the app, tracks, loops, Instruments, adding effects, recording/editing vocals. Original song project.
Week 2: Basics of melody, harmony, song structure, four chord pop song formula, exporting/sharing, copycat song project(attempt to recreate a section of a popular song).
Week 3: Multimedia Project (Choice of short commercial or video game trailer), musical style, mixing/mastering.
Week 4: Final polish, presentation of favorite projects, discussion of next steps.

No prior musical experience is required, just a desire to learn and a curiosity for both music and technology.
Please Note:

iPads, iPhones, or Macs with GarageBand downloaded are REQUIRED for this course as GarageBand is specific to macOS and iOS. Students will need 2 separate devices, one with GarageBand and one for the Zoom call. If the student does not have an Apple device I offer another course that is effectively the same but using the Digital Audio Workstation BandLab, which is available on all devices.

Please download the app ahead of class time. Feel free to reach out if you have difficulty with downloading the app.

Welcome parents and learners!
As a passionate musician and experienced instructor, I aim to ignite the same sense of wonder and discovery in my students that I experienced when I first started studying the piano as a teenager. What began as a fascination with video game music quickly blossomed into a deep appreciation for classical compositions and a diverse range of musical styles. This journey exposed me to a captivating world of music that I now enthusiastically share with my students.

I teach private and group classes in Piano, Singing, Composition, and Songwriting.

I hold a Bachelor of Music (BM) degree in Vocal Performance and Composition, complemented by extensive studies in Vocal and Piano Pedagogy. With a solid foundation in both theory and practice, I bring a holistic approach to my teaching. Throughout my 12 years of teaching experience, I have witnessed the profound impact that personalized instruction can have on a student's growth and development.

Understanding that each student possesses unique gifts and needs, I tailor my lessons to suit their individuality. Whether they aspire to master classical pieces, explore various genres, or even create their own compositions, I am dedicated to guiding them on their musical journey. My teaching methodology integrates technical proficiency, musical expression, and a deep understanding of music theory.

Creating a nurturing and inspiring environment is crucial to fostering a love for music. I strive to cultivate a positive and supportive atmosphere where students can freely express themselves, take risks, and build confidence in their abilities. Through a combination of structured lessons, creative exercises, and a genuine passion for teaching, I empower my students to unlock their full potential.

I look forward to embarking on this musical journey with you, helping you develop your skills, and sharing the joy of music together. Let's explore the vast possibilities that music offers and create beautiful melodies that resonate with your unique voice.
