Grammar is the building block of reading, writing, and speaking, but it's a skill that often isn't emphasized until middle school. Sentence diagramming is a skill not usually taught in school, but it's a great way to recognize sentence structures as well as parts of speech. In my experience homeschooling, I have seen firsthand how sentence diagramming helps learners in understanding grammar and builds confidence in writing and using parts of speech. In this class, we will learn the basics of sentence diagramming using articles nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. Students will practice recognizing subjects and predicates and recognizing the relationship between words and their modifiers. If students master this material quickly, we will extend the skills to include compound sentences and conjunctions.
Learning Goals
Students will gain confidence in grammar and sentence structure. Students will strengthen recognition of parts of speech as well as subjects and verbs.
