Class Experience

Welcome to Beginning Recorder 2!  I am excited at the prospect of teaching your young musician!  In this course, we will continue learning the basics of playing the recorder.  This includes proper posture, fingering positions, note names and values.  We will also play a variety of games and exercises to help with learning notes names, practicing rhythms and learning proper fingering. In this course, students will be able to:

Play and identify notes B, A, G, C, D, F#
Use proper posture, embouchure and fingering
Understand musical terminology
Understand musical symbols
Learn basic rhythms
Learn notes on the staff
Learn how to play basic songs

Students will be assigned songs to practice at home.  Practice is cumulative.  Practicing for shorter time spans, more frequently, will allow students to build upon what they have learned.  Ideally, 10-15 minutes a day works well.  However, I know schedules get very busy.  Only you will know what works best for your family!

For this class, you will need a soprano recorder and the Bruce Pearson & Wendy Barden "Recorder Excellence" method book.

Each student will be given opportunities to play individually for the teacher.  This will allow me to give individual feedback and check for proper understanding.

40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
