Class Experience

**Please note: Students must already know letter names and sounds in order to be successful in this class.

This class will teach your student to use phonics to learn how to blend sounds together to read words. We will also spend some time working on phonemic awareness.

To start each class we will begin with saying hello to all of our classmates by singing a short welcome song.

Then, we will spend about 5 minutes doing a phonemic awareness warm up (the ability to hear the sounds in spoken words). These will be oral activities that go back and forth between the students and teacher. In this warm up we will use verbal and kinesthetic games/routines to review and learn new spelling patterns.

Next, we will learn new phonics skill. Most classes will include a video by Jack Hartman to introduce the new skill. Each day we will practice blending a list of words that go along with the spelling pattern we are learning that week. This exercise will teach your student how to go from reading words sound by sound to reading whole words. To do this I will incorporate games to help make it engaging and memorable for the students.
To close our class we will sing a short goodbye song together.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name Tiffany. I hope to see your children in my classroom. I will be offering lots of preschool circle time classes, along with beginning reading, phonemic awareness, early math, fine motor practice, art, and more.
I have a bachelors degree in Elementary Education with my English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement and my state level 2 teaching license. I previously taught first grade in a public school, taught English to children in China, was a reading interventions for grades K-3 and I am currently the owner/teacher of my own preschool.

“Play is the highest form of research.” — Albert Einstein. I strongly believe that children learn best through hands on learning and play. I teach my classes based on this philosophy. My lessons focus on the whole child and include play, movement, creativity and development.

I have been married for 11 years. I am a mom of three children under the age of seven, two boys and a girl. Something I never thought I’d say is I have two pet goats named Bilbo and Frodo (my husband is a huge Lord of the Rings fan), we also have a pet husky named Rufio.
