1-2 hours per week. Students are expected to practice the lesson material for 10-20 minutes everyday. This amount may change depending on the age of the student.
Assessment
Learners are assessed throughout each exercise formatively and informally. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to ask for a written report if they would like to check in on their student's progress.

Class Experience

In Beginning Private Piano Lessons, students will learn the fundamental skills of playing the piano, including but not limited to:

-Music Reading
-Proper Technique
-Composition
-Improvisation
-Music Appreciation

Each 30 minute lesson will focus on a few of the essential pillars of musicianship listed above, with clear instruction on what to practice and for how long each week. Every class will start with a series of warm ups, music listening, call and response activities and finally a dive into carefully chosen piano repertoire. This repertoire will vary depending on each student's ability level.

This class is taught by watching, listening, and interacting with students to give concise feedback on what improvements each student can make. Students will have opportunities to ask questions, play curriculum related games, and compose their own music. There is no prior knowledge of the piano/music required.
Learning Goals
The student will learn foundations of playing the piano, which include: Music Reading, Technique, Composition, Improvisation, and Music Appreciation.

Supply List
Some curriculum materials will be supplied and some will need to be purchased by the parent/guardian. Depending on the age and experience of your student, I may recommend different literature. The two most common piano books I recommend are:

-Alfred's Basic Piano Library Book 1A
-Faber Piano Adventures Book 1

I encourage parents/guardians to wait until the first two or three lessons are finished so I have the opportunity to assess your student's ability level before purchasing any piano literature.
