In this 6-weeks course, learners will work through Units 1-2 of a purchased piano book, focusing on the basics of rhythm and note reading.
Class experience
This course consists of 6 piano traditional style lessons focusing on beginning rhythm and note reading. Each learner will need to purchase Faber Accelerated Piano Adventures Lesson Book 1. Learners will identify notes on the staff, note names, note duration and intervals as they learn to read music. Learners will be presented with visuals of the songs as well as a keyboard visual to facilitate understanding throughout the lesson. During each class, learners will review previous music terms...
The learner will read and play notes on the treble staff and bass staff. National Music Standards *MU:Pr4.2.H.5a Identify prominent melodic and harmonic characteristics in a varied repertoire of music that includes melodies, repertoire pieces, and chordal accompaniments selected for performance, including at least some based on reading standard notation. *MU:Pr5.1.H.5a Apply teacher provided criteria to critique individual performances of a varied repertoire of music that includes melodies, repertoire pieces, and chordal accompaniments selected for performance, and apply practice strategies to address performance challenges and refine the performances. *MU:Pr6.1.H.5a Perform with expression and technical accuracy in individual performances of a varied repertoire of music that includes melodies, repertoire pieces, and chordal accompaniments, demonstrating understanding of the audience and the context.
Homework Offered
Each week learners should practice new and previous material from the class. Specific assignments will be given at the end of each class. (The pacing of this course may be adjusted as needed.)2 - 4 hours per week outside of class

Learners will be informally assessed on demonstration of basic piano skills.Grades Offered
Each learner will need Faber's Accelerated Piano Adventures Lesson Book 1 which is available through a variety of vendors. https://pianoadventures.com/publications/accelerated-piano-adventures-lesson-book-1/ Learners also need a piano/keyboard and pencil.
Learners will be given a link to a practice page that is just for their class. The link is on my website and may include video demonstrations of the songs recorded by the teacher and play along audio. There are no outside links on the practice page.
