Description

Class Experience

Students will play music using finger numbers, letter names and standard music notation. Students will also learn how to count basic rhythms (quarter notes, half notes and whole notes) and play simple music using expression and dynamics.
I have been teaching piano for over 12 years. I have a Master's Degree in Music Education and a Bachelor's Degree of Art in Music. I am a touring musician and am currently recording my second solo album.
Students should independently practice music and assignments that are presented during class so that they are ready to learn new concepts during the next class. There will be an informal mini-recital held in Class Three so that students can showcase some of the skills they have learned in this course.
Students will need: Piano Adventures LESSON BOOK Primer Level 2nd Edition (ISBN: 978-1-61677-075-4) Price: US $7.99. (Purple cover) Students should have access to a piano or keyboard for the course. A keyboard that has at least 66 keys and allows for dynamic expression (sometimes call weighted or graded keys or touch response) is preferred. It is helpful for students to have a phone/tablet holder or stand so I can see their hands while playing the piano.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will offer feedback after students perform an exercise and, if needed, provide suggestions to help the student master the concept. Mistakes are a part of learning a musical instrument! So students should not worry if they play the exercise or a piece correct on the first try.
4 hours per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
