Homework
1 hour per week. I post several review pages for your child to complete after the recorded lesson if he/she needs some additional practice. These are not required; they are offered just for some fun extra word family work! Your child can complete the worksheets on their own or with help from a grown-up. If your child would like me to look at the pages, you can send a picture of them to me by email. I would love to tell your child "great job"! Students can also send me a short video of them reading the word family words or completing the practice pages.

Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
Beginner Level
*Each lesson consists of two videos. Total viewing time for the videos is approximately 30 minutes.
*Each lesson has a printable "word family house" that your child can use for class if he/she wishes. The "house" is optional; your child can use plain paper or a whiteboard instead.
*Included are 3 worksheet/practice pages that can be completed after the video lessons. The worksheets help students recognize the word family patterns and reinforce what was learned in the lesson.
*The worksheets/practice pages can be submitted to me via email if you would like me to "grade" them, or your child can send a short video or a photo of them completing the practice pages and/or reading the word family words.
*Please allow 3 business days for teacher feedback.

Class will begin with a review all of the letter names and letter sounds. Your child can write the letters if he/she would like.
*I will introduce the word family for the day, and students will practice blending the sounds that make up the family.
*We will write four words that are in the word family from the lesson. Your child will write the words with me on the "house" paper that can be printed out or on a whiteboard. Plain paper can be used, too.
*Together we will write a sentence using one or more of the word family words.
*We will talk about how word families are like people families - they are all related!
*At the end of the class, students will review the word family and do some activities relating to the word family that they have learned during the lesson.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the definition of a word family. They will learn how to use the word family "chunks" to read, write, and spell many words. Then students will be able to read a sentence using one or more of the words that were learned in class.
