In this 4 week course, students will practice letter recognition, letter sounds and basic phonics skills.
Class experience
In this basic, beginning phonics FLEX class, students will learn a series of letters and then practice putting those letter together to build simple CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. This class is intended for students who are just learning their letters and/or students who know a few letters, but need extra practice putting letters and sounds together. I am a licensed teacher (PreK-Grade 3) with a degree in Early Childhood Education, and a M.S. in Elementary Education with a focus in reading. I am LETRS certified and I have over 20 years of experience coaching young learners to become readers.
I will provide a template for handwriting paper and a sound mapping page. Learners may use their own primary lined paper. If you do not have access to a printer, you may create your own sound mapping page by hand (based on template provided). Learner will need a marker or pen to write with and 3 small objects (coins, building bricks, counters, cubes, paperclips). Optional: Students are welcome to practice letters on a dry erase board during the lesson if they wish.
