Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
Welcome to Beginning Phonics! This class has been designed to help learners practice identifying letters and letter sounds in a friendly, welcoming, and interactive online classroom. It is designed for learners who are just beginning to learn to identify letters and their sounds as well as learners who need extra practice with these skills.

Each class will follow the same format, but activities will vary from class to class. This class is interactive and designed to connect with various learning styles as we practice our pre-reading skills. Little learners love to move around and I encourage them to connect their brains to their bodies as we learn through movement (where it can be integrated). One letter will be introduced during each class meeting. Please see below for the class schedule.

Class structure:
1. Introductions and brief review of class rules.
2. Learners will be introduced to the letter of the day. We will learn what it looks like in its written form and we will learn its sound.
3. Learners will be shown pictures of various things that begin with the letter of the day to review its sound. We will build our phonemic awareness as we listen and learn to isolate sounds at the beginning of words. For example, "alligator" starts with letter Aa. I will model isolating the beginning sound for students by saying "/a/, /a/, alligator". Learners will then practice isolating the /a/ sound with me. We will learn various words that start with each letter. Learners will be encouraged to think of words that start with the target sound and share with the class.
3. We will practice identifying and writing the letter of the day (both uppercase and lowercase).
