What's included

Homework
1 hour per week. Students will practice reading words with the target sound each week. Students will find examples of words with the target sound to upload to the classroom to share. They can upload these words by typing them or by taking pictures of the word.We love to see the words that everyone finds, and many times these words help other students to find more words. This may require parent support. Students may find these examples in books or in any other written words.

Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
Students should know the letters in the alphabet, and the sound that each letter makes. This is a flex version of my poplar CVC course, which means there will be no regularly scheduled live meetings. Instead, learners will have access to previously recorded video lessons. Students will view the lessons on their own time, and practice reading on their own or with a parent. Each week throughout the week, the student will upload photos and/or videos of words they have found with the target sound, as well as videos of their reading for the other students and the teacher to review. Students will be able to see words that their classmates have found with the target sound and respond to their classmates' photos and videos.

In this class we will learn to blend CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words with short vowel sounds. These include words like cat, mom, dad, and bed. We will focus on one vowel sound each week, and will review the sounds and words that we have learned in previous classes. Students will learn through seeing written letters and words, by using body movements to represent sound, and through song. This course is especially helpful for young learners (preschool-Kindergarten) who are on the cusp of beginning to read, or for slightly older students (first grade+) who are struggling to consistently read CVC words.

The first week I will upload a pre-recorded video including a presentation with slides and some tips to help learners read words with the short A sound. Parents should watch the video with their students and help students follow along to practice reading words. The videos are meant for students to actively participate by saying the sounds aloud and reading with the teacher. Throughout the week, students will post in the classroom to share words they have found with the short a sound. Students will practice reading the words their classmates have shared and post their own words. By the end of the week, students will record a short video of themselves reading words with the short a sound. Parents will need to help record the video, but for the teacher to accurately assess the student's learning, parents should help as little as possible with the reading while recording. The teacher will view each video and post a short video response.

The second week the pre-recorded video will discuss the short O sound. Throughout the week, students will post in the classroom to share words they have found with the short O sound, and the teacher will respond to these posts. By the end of the week, students will record a short video of themselves reading words with the short O sound.

The third week the pre-recorded video will teach the short I sound. Throughout the week, students will post in the classroom to share words they have found with the short I sound, and the teacher will respond to these posts. By the end of the week, students will record a short video of themselves reading words with the short I sound.

The fourth week the pre-recorded video will discuss the short U sound. Throughout the week, students will post in the classroom to share words they have found with the short U sound, and the teacher will respond to these posts. By the end of the week, students will record a short video of themselves reading words with the short U sound.

The fifth and final week, the pre-recorded video will teach the short E sound. Throughout the week, students will post in the classroom to share words they have found with the short E sound, and the teacher will respond to these posts. By the end of the week, students will record a short video of themselves reading words with the short E sound. The teacher will also post a game that students can print out and play with their friends or family members to practice reading the CVC words we have learned in the course.

Hello! I am so excited to teach your child. I teach preschool and early elementary reading classes, and flexible schedule cooking classes. I have a degree in Elementary Education from Utah State University. I taught in Elementary Schools for 4 years before choosing to stay home with my daughters, where I spend a lot of time cooking and baking. I also spent a few months in Brazil where I taught English classes to children and adults. I love making learning fun! I look forward to seeing your child in my Outschool classroom!
