Beginning Music Theory Intensive

This class is a great for the beginner musician who is serious about learning music. In this fast paced course, will approach music in an engaging and practical way that is great for beginners to learn music theory and build musicianship skills. 

The class is interactive and the learners are encouraged to actively participate throughout the class. This course is designed to build a strong foundation for learners who are new to music theory.

Since this is a beginning level class, no prior knowledge of music is required, although having a basis of music can be helpful - all are welcome! The last 5 minutes of class is allotted for students to share what they've been working on in lessons, the opportunity to perform something, or to ask questions. 

Curriculum:
Class 1: The music staff, note values, identifying and reading notes on the treble clef
Class 2: Bass clef, rhythm, rest values, double bar lines, repeat signs
Class 3: Rhythm part 2, time signatures, tempo, dynamics
Class 4: Solfege, accidentals including flat, sharp, and natural signs
Class 5: Half steps, whole steps, scale degrees, constructing a major scale
Class 6: Major scales part 2, intervals
Class 7: Constructing minor scales
Class 8: Minor scales part 2,  melody, musical phrasing
Class 9: Key signatures, circle of fifths, discuss final presentation
Class 10: Review of all material, final project
