Road trips, camping, a hike in a state park, visiting shopping malls, or a child's day trip to the zoo. What do they all have in common? Each of these situations provide people with opportunities to use maps! Get ready to travel together during this engaging and hands on 8-week map skills course. Students can dress up with daily themes as they learn to read and understand the components of maps. Each day, students will be introduced to a new map component using real maps of states, travel destinations, and tourist attractions to support their understanding of: the compass rose, directions, cardinal directions, legends, scales, and grids. Finally, as a culminating activity, students will create their own unique map! What to expect during class: Each lesson will begin with a brief introduction to the daily topic. Following direct instruction, students will use a real map to facilitate discussion, exploration, and continued guided practice. The content taught in each lesson will be reviewed and built upon in subsequent lessons and integrated into activities. I look forward to seeing you on our adventure!
