Homework
1 hour per week. Homework for this class is optional. A few homework ideas are 1. Have your child draw and label the parts of a plant. 2. Have your child draw and label the life cycle of a plant/flower. 3. Have your child plant a seed, keep a journal and observe what happens to the seed over time.

Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
5 minutes- This will be spent building background knowledge and discussing what learners already know about flowers and plants. 

10-15 minutes- I will read and discuss the story "Seed to Plant".  I will stop frequently to discuss what we've read, point out details from pictures, explain why and how pictures are labeled certain ways, discuss key vocabulary and allow time for learners to share their own thoughts about what we've read.  I will also interject my own knowledge about plants, flowers, gardening and farming.

- Throughout the lesson, students will have the opportunity to draw and/or write what they are learning about.

5  minutes- After the story is over, I will summarize what was learned about the life cycle of a flowers/plants and what was learned about all types of flowers and plants.

5 minutes- I will wrap up the lesson by asking and answering questions about was learned about flowers and plants.  Time will also be allotted for learners to share something new that they learned about flowers and plants.  Learners will also have to opportunity to share their drawings/writing. 

* Follow up activities will be shared with all learners at the end of the class to help enhance their learning and understanding of plants and flowers.

*This class will be taught regardless of the number of learners that have enrolled.  Time may be adjusted for classes with a smaller number of students.

Learning Goals

The goal of this class is for students to learn about the life cycle of a plant, the parts of a plant, the importance of plants and fun facts about all types of plants, flowers and seeds.

Attached handout (or a plain piece of paper), markers, crayons and/or pencils.

In addition- I will be reading the book "Seed to Plant" by Kristin Baird Rattini.  It is not necessary for you to purchase this book for this class.  If you would like to purchase this book, it is $3.99 on Amazon.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
