Do you have a student who has learned some French, but struggles to comprehend and speak? This class builds from the beginning to develop conversation skills. There will be some written materials used for visual support, but we will not be practicing reading. This class's only goal is speaking and listening to the extent that it is required to hold a conversation. This class is NOT for complete beginners; students should have had some exposure to French (greetings, colors, family members, etc.) even if they struggle to use or understand it. Every class will start with a warm-up; usually a simple activity that uses a lot of visual support. After that, we will learn the week's vocabulary and practice the pronunciation through repetition and visual aids. We will apply the vocabulary we learned to our general conversation skills as students improve each week. Finally, we will do a fun cool-down activity to end class on a relaxed note. Here is the weekly plan: Week 1 - Les présentations Warm-up: characteristic bingo Learn vocabulary: asking about names, ages, and hobbies Vocabulary Practice: asking questions and talking to my puppets Cool-down: matching game Week 2 - La famille et les amies Warm-up: describe the picture Learn Vocabulary: talking about family members, appearance, and personality Vocabulary Practice: introduce stuffed animals Cool-down: listen to/sing a family song Week 3 - En ville Warm-up: bingo places Learn Vocabulary: describing your town, things to do in the city/country Vocabulary Practice: asking questions and describing different towns (pictures) Cool-down: shout-out game Week 4 - L’école Warm-up: Wheels on the Bus Learn Vocabulary: discussing school subjects and school objects Vocabulary Practice: Est-ce que tu aimes... Cool-down: fly swatting game Week 5 - La maison Warm-up: unscramble simple sentences Learn Vocabulary: talking about furniture, rooms, and describing your house/neighborhood Vocabulary Practice: Lequel est plus important? Cool-down: fill-in-the-blanks Week 6 - La nourriture Warm-up: category letter game Learn Vocabulary: talking about food and drinks Vocabulary Practice: I like, I don’t like Cool-down: Guess the food Week 7 - Les animaux Warm-up: animal matching game Learn Vocabulary: talking about pets and favorite animals Vocabulary Practice: describe your pet (or stuffed animal/favorite animal) Cool-down: Guess the Animal Week 8 - Le mouvement Warm-up: wiggle game Learn Vocabulary: talk about our bodies, exercise, sports Vocabulary Practice: Simon says Cool-down: counting claps rhythm exercise Week 9 - Les préférences Warm-up: colors of the rainbow Learn Vocabulary: preferences, favorites, comparatives Vocabulary Practice: Would you rather? Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been learning French for 6 years now, from French 1 - French 5. I am conversationally fluent and about a B2 level. I've been tutoring French since May 2020 when the French immersion school near us closed for quarantine and I've been teaching French on Outschool for 6 months.
I took the French CLEP test a few years ago and got maybe 5 points away from a perfect score while testing out of and getting credit for all the French classes at my local community college.
I also continue to take French lessons with native speakers, and I am working on getting my Bachelors in French.
