Class Experience

As an experienced band director of 16 years, I can tell you that beginning band directors have their hands full!  Beginning band classes usually have 30-50 students which can be hard enough to manage, but when you put noise makers (band instruments) in their hands?  It’s insanity!  Band directors are often trying to teach 6-10 different instruments at the same time and they just don’t have the time (no matter how hard they try) to give beginning flute players all the attention they need.  Flute is also one of the more difficult instruments for beginning band students to get the hang of...if your student’s beginning band director isn’t a flute player, they may not know all the little tips and tricks available to help your student get off on the right foot.

By enrolling in the Beginning Flute Bootcamp, your child will learn how to play the flute from me, a flute player of 26 years!  I know all the little things needed to help your students succeed.  Your students will take part in classes that are designed specifically for beginning flute players.

Here is a tentative schedule for the Beginning Flute Bootcamp:
• Day 1: Learn the parts of the flute and how to make your first sounds on the headjoint; Learn how to play 3 songs on the headjoint.
• Day 2: Review; Learn your first notes with the entire instrument; Learn 2 new songs; Learn how to clean your flute
• Day 3: Review; Learn the the basics to reading music; Learn 1 new song
• Day 4: Review; Learn 3 new songs
• Day 5: Review; Perform one of the songs you learned in a class recital

No prior knowledge is needed for this class!
